Two succesful events on architecture and urban development

The AFFR and IABR in Rotterdam

Interantionale ArchitectuurBiennale Rotterdam (IABR) and ArchitectureFilmFestival Rotterdam (AFFR) are looking for entries that fit the new urban thinking.

In 2009 in Rotterdam the AFFR and IABR proved to be 2 succesful events on architecture and urban development.

Stipo-partner Inspiring Cities organised as part of the AFFR a succesful Jane Jacobs program. Jeroen Laven, partner at Stipo, now is one of the board members of AFFR.

The world of urban development and architecture has changed dramatically since 2009. New forms of urban planning arise, often small innovative actions that can make a big difference.

Coming October 2011 and April 2012 there are new editions of the AFFR and IABR in Rotterdam.

The overall theme for the 2011 edition of the AFFR is ‘Think big, act small'. A worldwide answer to all megalomanic urban thinking of the past decade that has failed dramatically. The AFFR welcomes especially footage proving the value of small projects or actions in urban space that can have a major impact on society. The AFFR invites filmmakers, architects, urban planners and whoever is involved in our built environment to join the AFFR 2011 from October 6-9 2011.

Films can be entered until the first of June 2011

The theme of the 5th Architecture Biennale Rotterdam is MAKING CITY. The 5th IABR calls for submissions of projects that advance innovative responses to today's most pressing urban challenges. Municipal, metropolitan and national governments, cultural organizations, researchers, designers, and other parties are invited to submit design projects that rethink the existing interaction between politics, planning and design. The selected projects will be integrated into the 5th IABR's overall research and development process and they will be presented in Making City, the 5th IABR's main exhibition at the Netherlands Architecture Institute, opening in April 2012.

Projects can be submitted until 1 April 2011, 12:00 CET.
